FreeNet is completely decentralized, meaning that there is no person, computer, or organization in control of it or essential to its operation.
FreeNet cannot be attacked like centralized peer-to-peer systems such as Napster. It also employs intelligent routing and caching, learning to route requests more efficiently, automatically mirror popular data, and move data to where it is in greatest demand.
To become a part of FreeNet all you need is a computer with an Internet connection and the capability to run a FreeNet server.
FreeNet implements free speech, nothing more. It does not encourage or enable criminal behavior that would not have happened without it, and it might actually help us better understand and deal with criminality. |
